Local Elections (Disclosure of Donations and Expenditure) Act 1999, (as amended)
Responsibilities of Local Authority Members
The Local Elections (Disclosure of Donations and Expenditure) Act 1999, (as amended) sets out the framework for dealing with the receipt of political donations by Local Authority Members.
The legislation requires each person who, in the preceding year, was a Member of a Local Authority, to furnish to the local authority concerned a “donation statement”, accompanied by a statutory declaration, indicating whether or not during the previous year, the member received a donation, as prescribed in accordance with the above Act, the value of which exceeds €600.00, and stating in respect of each such donation (if any):-
(i) the value of the donation, and
(ii) the name, description and postal address of the person by or on whose behalf the donation was made by the 31st January 2014.
Members of the above Local Authorities have furnished donation statements to their respective Local Authority.
The “donation statements”, in respect of the Members of each Local Authority, can be inspected between 9.00am and 5.00pm, Monday to Friday until 28th March 2014 at the following locations:-
